The Democratic National Convention winds up with the nomination of Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson as running mate of presidential candidate Senator John F. Kennedy, climaxing a spectacular battle for the presidential nomination in which despite strong campaigns for Senator Johnson and Adlai Stevenson, Kennedy rolls to an overwhelming victory on the first ballot. Exterior - Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, people marching with signs. Interior scenes, convention: delegates, speakers, people waving signs for LBJ. MLS - At podium, Minnesota governor submits nomination of Senator John F. Kennedy. Delegates hold Kennedy for President signs and a giant Kennedy head. MLS - Minnesota senator Eugene McCarthy enthusiastically voices support for Adlai Stevenson. Stevenson supporters wave their signs. MS - Eleanor Roosevelt waves to crowd. Wyoming delegation cast the deciding vote. MS - JFK enters. The identically dressed Kennedy booster girls (young women in matching outfits with belts that say "Kennedy") bounce and clap. John F. Kennedy addresses the people and accepts his nomination, "With our devotion to this country we wish to keep it strong and we wish to keep it free. It requires at this critical time, the best of all of us. And I can assure all of you here who have reposed this confidence in me, that I will be worthy of your trust. We will carry the fight to the people in the fall. And we shall win."
