Miracle Team: Giants Enter Series With Homer In Ninth. Baseball's miracle team of 1951, the stretch-running New York Giants, come from behind in a dramatic ninth inning drive to beat the Dodgers in the final game of the pennant play-off. Bobby Thomson's three-run home run off Ralph Branca turns the tide and the Giants earn the right to battle the Yankees for the World Series crown. People pour out of subway onto sidewalk, make their way to Polo Grounds. Ticket takers work rapidly. Leo Durocher and the team walk along on field. Lorraine Day (?), apparently Durocher's wife, watches from the stands, her fingers crossed. Sal Maglie pitches to Jackie Robinson, who singles and Pee Wee Reese comes in for a run. Whitey Lockman sacrifice bunt, Monte Irvin slides into third just in time. Bobby Thomson (alt spelling Thompson) hits a pop fly, giving Irvin time to tag up and run home. Ralph Branca replaces Don Newcombe as pitcher. Thomson homers, Branca looks dejected, the Giants rejoice. Close shot of team celebrating their win. Throughout the story are close shots of various fans (spectators), often excited, other reactions, too. These fans are mostly male but one is an old woman (elderly), and there seems to be a mix of white (Caucasian) and black (African American) people in the stands.
