Even locomotives are manufactured in the north. Culture is completely under Soviet influence. For example, one of the first projects undertaken at this university after the country's liberation from Japan in 1945 was the translation of Joseph Stalin's biography. Elections, loosely speaking. There is campaigning, but only one party. There is voting, but only one slate of candidates. The people cast either yes or no ballots. Distribution of land makes good propaganda. But as in all communist countries, it ends up state-controlled farms..."
